Story And the alternate cover: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Electric Ladyland was Jimi’s third, and last studio album with the original line up of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. Thank goodness he had audio engineer who could see the path Jimi was on. Eddie Kramer used various studio tricks on the album that were to set the standard for many bands to come. Echoing, flanging, reverse taping, crazy mic set ups, etc.

While Jimi Hendrix is an undeniable rock legend on his own, the group Jimi Hendrix Experience were a formidable power trio for a short but important period. Electric Ladyland was the last of three albums by the Experience and this double LP was their creative and musical apex.

All helped to create the “soundscapes” on this album. Not since Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” studio efforts had something like this been heard. I'm presenting the review as I heard it for the first time, on two separate albums. Nowdays it's released all on one CD ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Tunes.

Side A • And The Gods Made Love (1:21) quick and over the top reverb reverse tape tricks. • Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) (2:12)nice and relaxed introduction to the ride. • Crosstown Traffic (2:25).Jimi creates a brilliant analogy between traffic and relationships.

• Voodoo Chile (15:05).A unique tune, in that he opened the doors of the recording studio to many players who were hanging out. Steve Winwood is playing Hammond on this track. Jack Casady on bass.

According to Kramer, the applause at the end of the song was added as an overdub to create a “party” feel. Side B • Little Miss Strange (2:50).this was a tip of the hat to Noel Redding, who wrote the song. Chas Chandler was apparently happy with it, as it had a “poppier” feel to it, thinking it may become a radio single.

• Long Hot Summer Night (3:30)this song was mixed long after several of the other tunes on the album. Al Kooper on piano. Long lost love song. • Come On (Let The Good Times Roll) (4:10) A classic blues work out. Credit has to be given to Earl King who originally performed the song.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others, have picked it up. • Gypsy Eyes (3:46) It is reported that Jimi and Kramer did at least 41 takes before getting what they wanted here. • Burning Of The Midnight Lamp (3:44) “ I wrote part of the song on a plane between LA and New York. There are some very personal things in there, but I think everyone can understand the feeling when you’re travelling that, no matter what your address, there is no place you can call home. The feeling of a man in a little old house in the middle of a desert where he is burning the midnight lamp.” Jimi Hendrix Side C I will say this is my favorite set of songs on the album. The whole concept of living underwater and “sailing away” to a new utopia are in keeping with Hendrix’s fascination with Sci-Fi and Utopian cultures. I feel this set of music represents Hendrix’s “uniqueness” the most.

He always complained of “not fitting in”, but this type of imaginary song writing is magnificent in my opinion. • Rainy Day, Dream Away (3:43) • 1983.(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) (13:46) Chris Wood on flute. • Moon, Turn The Tides.gently gently gently (1:01) Side D • Still Raining, Still Dreaming (4:24) Mike Finnigan on Hammond • House Burning Down (4:35) Massive percussion work and a slamming guitar piece. • All Along The Watchtower (4:01) Dave Mason on 12 string. Claims that Brian Jones did some percussion work on the tune as well. • Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (5:14) A devastating track.

The tone Jimi got here is incredible, even by today’s standards. SRV’s take is the closest in range, but still falls a bit short in my opinion. (and I love SRV!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *DISCLAIMER: Source material came from several books and liner notes. None of this information was attained off the “net”. I have not done an album review, ever.

I was looking at the album review list, and noticed only one review for a Hendrix album. So, with all that being said, please be forgiving in your analysis! Re: Jimi Hendrix Experience: Electric Ladyland Hey it's hard to comment knowledgeably on the album because I've never heard it but your review made me listen through all the tracks you listed.
